When you are in a Zen-like gardening mode & encounter a clutch of snails munching your plants, what do you do?

Where we lived a few years ago we had snails to crawl all over our patio, leaving trails every where. I put salt all around the patio and that stopped the snail problem. We had a lot of potted plants on the patio and snail trails were on the pots too. Disgusting creatures. Poppy
